The Shishito Pepper is originally from Ghana. Despite being a pepper, it has a rather mild spiciness to it and is great served as an appetizer. Shishito peppers are high in vitamin K, vitamin B6, and vitamin C as well as many other vitamins and minerals. Shishito peppers are typically used to make a Shishito “black” sauce which accompanies many dishes in Ghana. They contain 27 calories per pepper.
Blistered Shito Peppers
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 cups whole shishito peppers or Padrón chiles
Directions: Heat oil in a large cast-iron skillet or other heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Cook peppers until they begin to blister on all sides. Sprinkle with salt and serve immediately.
