Marine Biologist, Nancy Caruso taught a class called Aquaponics 101 at Vertical Hydrogarden in Anaheim. This farming technique is becoming popular among people who want to grow their own food. It uses Aquaculture growing fish and Hydroponics soil-less crop production together to make the perfect ecosystem to grow food in. The fish produce waste that is naturally broken down in aquatic systems by bacteria into nitrate which just happens to be a favorite food of plants! The fish and the plants together create a balances equation that uses 90% less water than traditional soil gardening because they are living IN the water. Water loss by evaporation is the only required input.
